Albion Online will go into cruise control and suck as much money out of the cash shop before it dies
There are too many cons to making this game free to play:
1. People will use multiple accounts to get an edge (I'm not sure exactly how this would help you yet, but it will. Probably abuse the LP system)
2. Albion Online Gold sellers will spam all over the chat advertising their websites to buy Albion Online gold, Albion Online silver, items, and accounts.
3. It will invite a bunch of children into the game who will never spend any money towards it anyway.
4. The dreaded cash shop. Hardcore MMO players hate the word itself. (It's a fact that the hardcore players only make up a small percentage of the player base, but these players are responsible for a majority of the overall development of an MMO community. Don't ignore them!)
5. People will complain all day that its P2W given the premium player system (even if its not P2W).
Everyone who has purchased a founder's pack will gladly pay an $10 monthly subscription to not have to deal with these cons. Moreover, I really think it would net more money for SI. If this game goes free to play, and serious MMO gamers are turned off and leave. Than that will be it. Albion Online will go into cruise control and suck as much money out of the cash shop before it dies. We can prevent this! We will pay sub! SI will get paid and will be able to add content to the game!
Admittedly, I am ignoring the plus side to free to play. Obviously more players will be play the game, especially during the early stages, if the game is released as free to play. How many of these players will eventually put money into the game? That's anyone's guess, but I suppose SI is putting faith in it.
I much prefer the limited access free to play model. Where people can get in the game for free, but only access a small amount of content. Then they can choose to pay to play the game or not. I think this would effectively weed out players who would actually invest anything in the game.
Is there anyway SI could be convinced that going subscription based is what's best for this game? Sorry for ranting a bit, but they have a really great idea here, and I'm crossing my fingers they don't ruin it.
I really do hope the game would become limited for non premium players. But that's not currently what its looking like. To me, it seems that 75% of the player base will be free to play, and 25% will pay the premium and get silver and fame bonuses. That system would not solve the cons I posted.
Albion Online Gold sellers will exist either way, but significantly less if the game is pay to play. This is obvious just from playing multiple sub and f2p mmos. And yes, there will always be people who complain. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a right and wrong decision. This game will either be successful or it will start off okay and then die like 90% of MMO's. I strongly feel that this pay model is the wrong decision.
Encouragement-- for those concerned about the Wipe
focus on the best parts the most fun parts of the game, not everything is about items and progress and Albion Online Silver, -such as focus on the thrill of pking, focus on the risk the reward- that feeling of adrenaline- of danger
Fast Travel for the New World opinions
I would like to personally see boats and ships in game, but crafted by players. These should take some time to build and need lots of materials
Albion Online Suggestions
I have a list of NPC'S drawn from the Albion Online Wiki, and it doesn't seem like there's anything mythical, nor majestic
The new Albion Online Learning Points system feels utterly pay-to-win to me
I bet that the best thing to do its to eliminate the lp system, and make premium just to get more exp, albion online silver, or be able to buy cosmetic things with albion gold only avaible for premium users.
My Albion Online issue
Thing is, then we're splitting the albion online silver between even MORE people! I know, your solution is, "Go to the black zones then".
Albion Online Faction PvP
The Faction system in the game now is pretty much non-existent to every player in Albion Online right now because it is not fun.
